Women only in Venice
Following up his Oscar-winning success with the musical Chicago,
director Rob Marshall has unleashed himself on another magnificent
extravaganza. Superb dance numbers and a cast of superstar actresses
dominate this film adaptation of the famous Broadway musical Nine.
The film escorts us away to Venice, where film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day Lewis) is trying to finish his latest film. The anticipated celebration of his fortieth birthday is quickly stymied by the onrush of a mid-life crisis and the drying up of his creative powers. On top of which, he has succumbed to the enchantments of the many women who surround him – his mother (Sophie Loren), wife (Marion Cotillard), lover (Penélope Cruz), life-long muse (Nicole Kidman), costume designer (Judy Dench) and fashion journalist (Kate Hudson).
