The emergence of furniture manufacture using bent wood was one of the greatest revolutions in the furniture-making industry. The masters of making furniture this way were Michael Thonet and his sons, whose furniture found its way into numerous households, and whose ‘Chair no. 14’, first manufactured in 1859, has entered furniture history as a design classic. This new technique was mastered in time by other manufacturers, architects and artists, such as Adolf Loos, Jan Kotěra or the German Bauhaus designers.
