Balkan music at Fléda
Slonovski bal (Elephant’s Ball) – seven Parisian musicians playing
Balkan rhythms. Most of them are the children of emigrants from the
former Yugoslavia who have teamed up and fused the traditions of
Western jazz, funk and rock with traditional Balkan elements.
The wild medleys of drums, accordion, saxophone, tuba and trumpet generate a whirlwind from which you’ll recognize snatches of klezmer, Roma brass band as well as Greek music. Expect to hear traditional songs (fans of Balkan music will recognise some favourites) as well as the band’s own arrangements and compositions. These elephants really know how to blow their trunks and stamp their feet!
