The unfaithful Fledermaus
Of all the months of the year, Die Fledermaus, the operetta by Johann
Strauss II, is perhaps best suited to January – with the audience still
intoxicated from New Year’s celebrations, flushed with hopes and
resolutions to better enjoy the year to come, this light and witty work
will surely delight.
With Die Fledermaus, Johann Strauss II announced his entrance to the world of operetta, and alongside the Gypsy Baron is perhaps his most popular stage work. It promises to be a joyous, colourful and musically ravishing staging of married infidelity, a performance to be greeted with laughter and tears.
